Hobbs VFW Member's Website Hacked
Topic: General Information

Right around Christmas one of our VFW member's website, Initial Impression.biz, was hacked and for a brief time was showing an extremist militant group logo from somewhere in Germany.  They evidently also were able to send out fraudulent mass emailings using the site.  Shortly thereafter, the site/server was deemed unreachable by this Webmaster, and I have been unable to gain access to the site or retrieve the original files from the site server.  Support tickets to the site Host have proven fruitless, and apparently the access password has been changed.

So, I have rebuilt the site using a more secure host, and for those of you who may be interested in doing business with Carolyn Huerta's Initial Impression business, her new site is: http://www.initialimpression.info

DART TOURNAMENT
Mood:  happy
Now Playing: DART TOURNAMENT

I am happy to say that the Dart Tournament held Friday went great.  We had a few new faces and they seem to be enjoying themselves. Thanks I believe to the Newspaper, Radio and of course to our new outdoor sign.

There were 6 teams in the Tournament.

1st place went to Howard and Smokey

2nd place went to Dennis and Tiny

3rd place went to Tammy and David.

New faces in the Tournament were Tony and Jose of Hobbs. We had a few late phone calls for the Tournament.

I want the thank Glenda for helping with sales of the Triple Shot tickets.  David's number was called.  He had to hit the triple 7.  Sorry David.

Triple Shot pot is now right at $300. ( $100 per triple dart)

Hope to see you again next Tournament.

Dennis

Christmas Virus Alert.....Please update your Virus Software!
Now Playing: fwded email.....thanx Dean!
Topic: General Information
                FYI TO ALL.

Dave's brother is a very advanced programmer who does computer work for a living and has a high up status with Microsoft. He doesn't send these if they aren't real. If he says this is for real, it for sure is. Be aware.

                VIRUS COMING !

                Hi All,

I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!

I checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK, regardless who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.

This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this
message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN.

It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the
Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is
                kept.

COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS.

REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

When the Music Stopped!
Now Playing: fwd: from Mary Lou Fletcher
Topic: General Information

When the Music Stopped...
When the Music Stopped...
(For those who are unaware: At all military base theaters, the National Anthem is played before the movie begins.)

This is written from a Chaplain in Iraq :

I recently attended a showing of 'Superman 3' here at LSA Anaconda. We have a large auditorium that we use for movies as well as memorial services and other large gatherings.
As is the custom at all military bases, we stood to attention when The National Anthem began before the main feature.
All was going well until three-quarters of the way through The National Anthem, the music stopped.

Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-to-22-year-olds back in the States? I imagine that there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments, and everyone would sit down and yell for the movie to begin. Of course, that is, only if they had stood for The National Anthem in the first place.

Here in Iraq 1,000 soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed forward. The music started again, and the soldiers continued to quietly stand at attention. Again, though, at the same point, the music stopped. What would you expect 1,000 soldiers standing at attention to do?? Frankly, I expected some laughter, and everyone would eventually sit down and wait for the movie to start.

No!!. . . You could have heard a pin drop while every soldier continued to stand at attention.

Suddenly, there was a lone voice from the front of the auditorium,
then a dozen voices, and soon the room was filled with the voices
of a thousand soldiers, finishing where the recording left off:
"And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave,
o'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave."

It was the most inspiring moment I have had in Iraq , and I wanted you to know what kind of U.S. Soldiers are serving you! Remember them as they fight for us!
Pass this along as a reminder to others to be ever in prayer for all our soldiers serving us here at home and abroad. Many have already paid the ultimate price.

Written by Chaplain Jim Higgins, LSA Anaconda is at the Ballad Airport in Iraq , north of Baghdad .

Please share only if you are so inclined. God Bless America and all of our troops serving throughout he world.

Now Playing: fwd: Dave Fouse, NM VFW
Topic: General Information
Comrade,
Would like help getting word out to all our VFW posts here in NM.

I work here at the VA hospital in Albuquerque and am a member of Corrales Post 5432.  The VA Hospital Donated clothing store for our Veterans is in need of winter clothing.  We are not doing too bad for coats, but are in need of long pants waist sizes 29” thru 36”.  Length does not matter.  Also long sleeve button down shirts.   Good shoes and boots of all sizes too.  If  you are coming to the VA facility for an appointment, or just visiting the Area consider dropping off those items you would like to donate.

Thanks,

Tom

VFW Sign
Mood:  happy
Now Playing: Great News For The VFW
Topic: General Information

I contacted the Sam's Club in Odessa.  They are going to give the VFW a credit of $100 towards the sign.  It would be great to have the sign by Wednesday to advertise the Dart Tournament on Friday.

Then who knows, a VFW Dance the next week.
